Hyderabad: Task Force sleuths arrested the kingpin of call girl racket, identified as dubbing assistant Juvval Raju (35) from Rajahmundry, on Sunday night following raids in upmarket Begumpet area.
Raju’s assistant Kanakaparthi Ravi alias Chandu (29); Ramagiri Veeranna (29); driver M Narasimha Murthy alias Narayana (27) who ferried clients to the house after the deal was stuck on phone; and Neelaveni, a 48-year-old woman, whose role was unclear, were also arrested.
While the absconding Johny is a Tollywood costume designer who specialized in identifying potential call girls from the film world and abroad. Four mobile phones, a red Maruti Swift, one Skoda and Rs 4,000 cash was seized from the brothel house. Surprisingly, no clients were nabbed.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that the Uzbek national Sabrina had been paid Rs 2 lakh for a 10-day period while they were charging customers from Rs 1-2 lakh for a night.
But what has come in for flak is that the raid party had only one female cop.
“Even if it is a brothel there is need to have more women in the raiding party,” a representative from a woman’s organisation fumed.
Another grouse against the cops has been their focus on small-time stars.
“Just as drugs is widespread, so are call girl rackets. Then why limit police action only to the fringes? Of course, I understand that it is not easy to detect call girl rackets carried out with more aplomb,” according to observer said.
